CRU Training is an internal institution of the Crusader Union of Australia and a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Location

CRU Training is based at the CRU Galston Gorge Camp & Conference Centre, and from here we have direct access to hectares of private bushland and walking tracks that join with the Great North Walk and other outdoor areas within the Berowra Waters National Park. Although we are based in Galston, we have lakefront training facilities on Lake Macquarie that allow us to run training for water activities such as kayaking, canoeing, sailing, dragon boating and more. The CRU Lake Mac site is also a great location for running many other land-based outdoor activities such as abseiling, climbing and archery.

History

CRU Training was established in 2001 to service the needs of the growing staff team of camp leaders at CRU. Since then, we have issued hundreds of qualifications in Outdoor Recreation and trained thousands of people in First Aid. Many of our trainees have continued their career with CRU in management and leadership roles, and a substantial proportion of staff have remained actively involved in ministries where they continue to apply the skills learnt during their time as students of CRU Training.

Availability

CRU Training is available to run first aid, water safety courses and outdoor recreation qualifications for workplaces, ministry organisations and schools.

Smart and Skilled Funding

CRU Training is an approved provider authorised by Training Services NSW (which is part of the NSW Department of Education), through its Smart and Skilled program (information about which is hosted at the NSW Government’s websites Skills NSW and Vocational education and training (VET). This means we can deliver some of our courses at substantially subsidised rates. Further to this, as of 1 January, 2021, all Outdoor Recreation and Leadership qualifications when delivered to a registered NSW New Entrant Trainee are fully subsidised by the NSW Government.

If you wish to enrol in our course, then please contact us. Once you are accepted into a course you will need to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you don’t have one we can generate one for you (you will need to provide your Australian driver’s licence or passport) or you can do it yourself by visiting the USI website.

CRU does not subcontract your training to other providers. We don’t offer VET fee help and our fee protection policy, along with all our policies, is available upon request. We make our privacy policy and complaints and appeals policy publicly available.

We have the ability to defer training if needed once you are enrolled, and our team is available to discuss any student welfare issues you may have as your training continues. If you have further questions, please contact us and we’d be happy to help you out.
