STAFF, SAFETY & ACCREDITATION


SUMMIT STAFF

Experienced and qualified teachers head the Summit Educational Camps team. The Summit staff will design and direct all programs in consultation with schools and supervise a team of trained instructors and assistants.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Gary Hill Executive Director of Crusaders B.Ec Hons, Dip.Ed.ThC Hons  Gary has 12 years experience in Outdoor Education and 4 years high school teaching experience. He has also written many study skills programmes.



Nathan McElveney


Director - Summit Educational Camps
BA, Dip.Ed. BA(ling) Hons.  Nathan joined Crusaders in 2004, with teaching experience as a classroom and ESL teacher, as well as having 7 years camping experience with other Christian organisations. He has gifts in music, as well as interests in outdoor recreation. His teaching experience and understanding of the process of education allow him to run a well-rounded programme for students of all ages.


Alicia Cleary



Program
Coordinator
After High School, Alicia entered the banking industry and rose to the level of Lending Manager. She completed a Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and is involved with the Youth Ministry at her church. She enjoys roughing it in 5 star hotels and travelling in luxury. Alicia joined the Summit team in 2008 and is currently studying a Certificate II in Outdoor Education.




David Davies





Program
Coordinator
BTh, Diploma in Divinity and Mission. David is an ordained Anglican minister, having been Deaconed in Tamworth in 2001 and priested in Moree in 2003. He was a Vicar of a small country town (but not in Dibley) and has worked for many years in Youth and Camping Ministry. He has been a cook, a horse wrangler and repaired computers for a living. David joined Summit in 2008 and is currently studying for a Certificate II in Outdoor Education.





Rob Warner






Outdoor Educator
Rob grew up on Crusader sailing camps. After he left school, Rob worked as a Purchasing Officer with Clark Equipment where he gained a Cert IV in  Purchase and Supply and a Diploma of Logistics Management. He signed up as a 'Fellow' at the end of 2002 and moved into an Outdoor Leader position in 2004. He holds a Cert III in Outdoor Recreation, a Cert IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, Bronze Medallion, Senior First Aid and Australian Yachting Federation Certificates in Powerboat Handling & Rescue Boat Instruction.






Dev Blair






Outdoor Educator
After leaving school in 1998, Dev worked as the Logistics Manager at Macquarie Shopping Centre and also as a landscaper for SJB Landscapes. He worked casually for Crusaders for 4 years before coming on board full time as an OET for Summit Camps. In 2004, he changed roles to become an Outdoor Leader and was appointed as an Outdoor Educator at the end of 2006. He holds a Certificate in Youth Work from TAFE NSW, Cert III in Outdoor Recreation, Cert IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, Bronze Medallion and Senior First Aid.







Jacqui Maynard








Outdoor Educator
BMin, AssocDip (Arts - Music & Drama), Cert TESOL, Senior First Aid Cert.  Jacqui has been involved in camping, youth and children's ministry for over 20 years. She has been the Youth Co-ordinator for Scripture Union South Australia, Youth Counsellor Trainer for Franklin Graham Organisation, lecturer in Christian Education for Tabor Bible College and involved with Youth Evangelism at the AOG World Changers Bible College. Jacqui also worked as a volunteer leader & then staff member at Wirraway Homestead Youth Centre for 10 years and has 20 years experience as a youth speaker at various schools, camps and conferences. Jacqui joined the Summit team in 2008 and is currently studying for a Cert II and III in Outdoor Education.

SUMMIT SAFETY

  • All Crusaders' Summit full-time and casual staff have been fully screened and approved under the governmental Working with Children Legislation.
  • Summit Educational camps provide a minimum of 1 leader for every 10 campers, to ensure optimum supervision and quality instruction.
  • All Full-time Summit Staff have current first aid certificates and are experienced in a broad range of outdoor activities.
  • All Summit activities are undertaken at the highest standards possible. Well prepared lesson plans mean that each activity is conducted in a structured, safe and fun manner.

SUMMIT ACCREDITATION

  • Crusaders is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • Summit is committed to increasing the quality and accountability of providers of outdoor education services to schools. At present Summit require staff to have input into national committees for both campsite and organisation accreditation programmes.
  • Summit staff undertake training that is nationally recognised and guaranteed under the Vocational Education and Training Programme (VET).
